I said yesterday that I want to try and find new music for me to listen to and I started by checking out Spotify and their recommended albums and the like. They recommended me an album by Cypress Hill called “Strictly Hip Hop: The Best of Cypress Hill“. I know a lot of people scoff at compilation albums but they are an awesome way to get a taste of an artist.
I’ve been listening to it since yesterday and it’s a fantastic album. It’s far removed to what I normally listen to. I feel a bit awkward listening to rap and hip hop, I always suddenly feel very Caucasian when I listen and I feel that I shouldn’t be listening as the usual stereotypical white guy listening to rap and hip hop is a complete douche (I’m looking at you Tim Westwood. Hopefully that thought will eventually leave my head eventually.
I don’t know what it is with Cypress Hill but they just seem to have a “too damn cool” vibe about them. Their style of music is only really describable as being like “Cypress Hill”. There is no one else I can really start to compare them to. Which is always my knee jerk reaction when it comes to new music… Oh they sound like “blah blah blah”. It’s a nice thing to discover a group that sound like themselves :D

I really hate it when people claim that they love all types of music. It’s not true. I used to claim that I used to like all kinds of music. Turns out that that is actually turns out to be untrue. I care very little for jazz.
I’m always very interested in most types of music. I’ll give anything a listen. In fact if I don’t like it, I’ll give it another couple of times just in case I was missing something. For the life of me, I just couldn’t get on with Brian Wilson’s “Lucky Old Sun” even after 4 tries. The problem I keep coming up against is where do I find new music to listen to? There isn’t a place that says “hey try this bro!”. I don’t even know where to find a site to find new music. It’s a pain in the arse. If only there was a music club.
What I’m gonna do in a very roundabout, unstructured way is going to start listening to stuff and talking about it on here. It’s worth a try isn’t it? I know that the idea seems like a good idea on paper but the carrying out of it probably won’t happen. It’s worth a try though.
I made a new playlist on Spotify as a bit of a test. It’s called “May Playlist” and can be found here check it out. Here is the track listing:
- Jay-Z – “Hard Knock Life – The Ghetto Anthem”
- Kid Cudi, Ratatat, MGMT – “Pursuit of Happiness (nightmare)”
- No Doubt – “Just A Girl”
- Marina and the Diamonds – “I Am Not A Robot”
- Easy Star All-Stars, Kirsty Rock – “Paranoid Android”
- The Cascades – “Rhythm of the Rain”
- Peaches – “Fuck The Pain Away”
- Liam Lynch – “This Town Sucks”
- Earth, Wind & Fire – “Fantasy”
- David Bowie – “Dodo”
- Sonic Youth – “Schizophrenia”
- Space – “The Ballad of Tom Jones”
- Ultravox – “Vienna”
- Gorillaz (featuring Little Dragon) – “To Binge”
Give it a listen and let me know what you think :D

The Queen is a robot,
she’s walking around London town.
with laser beams in her eyes
burning buildings down

So how is my finger today? I’d say it’s pretty much healed up now. Yes I have been using hand cream but it has helped so much. I’m looking forward to finally getting able to play the guitar and write new songs. I may even record some if it’s going OK.
I’m happy as a clam :D
